I do believe that humans have a moral obligation to find and explore habitable worlds outside of our own. When it comes down to it, Earth will not always exist or be habitable for humans. We need to give humanity a fair chance at surviving indefinitely by exploring other worlds outside our own that we could possibly inhabit. By doing this, it can give our existence as humans a cosmic purpose. There are a few ways we can try to further humanity’s existence. The idea is to “deposit an array of primitive organisms on potentially fertile planets and protoplanets throughout the universe” (quote from website). The question of whether this should exploration into space should come before imminent affairs on Earth is a gray area. To some extent, I believe it should. We should be trying to do everything we can to make sure humanity has a future. We are all connected, and we should want to give the humans of the future the best chance they can to survive. For humanity to someday disappear without a trace would make all of our advancements now feel sort of purposeless. Humans need to keep trying to find ways to further the existence of humanity so that right now on Earth people feel they have purpose in the work they are doing.
