An accurate definition of marketing can be found on the American Marketing Association’s website (www.ama.org). “Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large (American Marketing Association, 2013, Definition of marketing section, para. 1). Marketing in the healthcare industry has expanded with the identification of healthcare consumerism. Hence, medical practices have the opportunity to tap into a new market through creative approaches, capitalizing on consumer access to technology as well as a more knowledgeable consumer base.

Options for patient scheduling include online booking, open access with same day appointments, half-day weekend hours, and evening hours one or two days a week.
