Everyone is afraid of something, and Ray Bradbury was no different. Bradbury had many fears, plenty of which came out in his infamous short stories. Through these stories, readers are able to get a glimpse inside a prodigious writer’s head. What is seen may even cause some personal turmoil to arise, especially with the vivid imagery and symbolism used by Bradbury to elaborate on his outlooks.
Bradbury believed AI will take over what people need in life to feel necessary. People won't live without a reason. There is also a possible fear of AI rising up. He worries for the change that could come to what is seen as normal. Mental health is extremely important, and must be understood to be managed. In “The Pedestrian,” it is very apparent that the ideas about mental health that people have today are pretty much down the drain. ''Where are you taking me?' ... 'To the Psychiatric Centre for Research on Regressive Tendencies.'"(“The Pedestrian”). “The Pedestrian” truly shows how worried Bradbury was about how the world would change. Nothing was too different from now other than how many police were out and how many people watch TV. There are already people like this who rarely even get off the couch in their free time. In “The Pedestrian”, it is shown that the police car thinks he is mentally ill because he enjoys getting out into nature. Now, if a person wants to be outside all the time, it's completely healthy. Bradbury wanted it to stay like that. Along with changing technology comes changing how young children will be protected from things too mature for them. This was an issue in “The Veldt.” Wendy and Peter are exposed to too much too fast. "Too much of anything isn't good for anyone. And it was clearly indicated that the children had been spending a little too much time on Africa."(The Veldt).
