UC Berkeley is a very prestigious school and is very hard to get into. UC Berkeley is in need of diversity, so this means she can benefit our school. A lot of these facts show Marcela is a very good candidate for our school and community. She has proven in high school that she can work at a college level. Marcela Alvarez must be admitted to UC Berkeley because high GPA, extracurricular activities, and honor/AP classes. Marcela shows that she can keep her grades up and is very consistent with her grades. Simply put GPA matters the most for example. The evidence of the study clearly shows that high GPA matters. Colleges don’t just care about the grades they also look at how involved they could be at school for example “We read each application individually-looking beyond the numbers-for students who can add extraordinary educational atmosphere at Berkeley”(Office of…). Marcela shows on her transcript that she has been in many clubs and has been doing community service. Also she has been doing extra curricular activities all four years she has been in high school. On her transcript it shows that she has done Yearbook, Academic Enrichment, Community Service, and has been in a club. She was doing something for her community and school for all for years she was always involved in something. Marcela took advantage of all the activities that the school and community gave her. Also i think she fits because “According to the state Master Plan for Higher Education, the university is obligated to create a student body reflective of California’s diverse population. Since 1996, however, UC Berkeley has struggled to meet this goal”(Chinoy). Marcela would be very good to help Berkeley’s diversity because she is a minority. Also it is a very good fit because she is a very good student with good grades. From her transcript it shows that her first language is spanish so she had to learn english, she still works at a high level even though english is not her first language. Some people might say that SAT scores matter and it should affect your chances of getting into college, but some people say it doesn't matter “According to the data, if high schools are not high, good testing does not promise college success. Students with good grades and modest testing did better in college than students with higher testing and lower high school grades” (Sheffer). Grades in high school matter more than test scores but in some cases SAT and ACT score can play a bigger role. In most studies students with high GPAs can be bad test takers and fail the SAT scores so the SAT score needs to take a smaller role in college selections. Marcela can help diversity even though she has low SAT scores, Marcela shows that she is a very good
