Robber Baron or Captain of Industry? This is the ultimate question. There are several
major business leaders that were very successful is the late 19th Century. One of the successful
leaders is J. Pierpont Morgan. Many people around the United States view J. Pierpont Morgan
differently and think about him in different ways. Some ways are bad and some ways are good. I
believe that he is a Captain of Industry. Read on to see why I think that J. Pierpont Morgan is a
Captain of Industry and not a Robber Baron.
The first reason why he is a Captain of Industry is because he bailed out the United States

why I would consider J. Pierpont Morgan a Captain of Industry.
The second reason why he is a Captain of Industry is because he created the world’s first
billion dollar company. Anyone who creates a billion dollar company, I would not consider them
a robber baron. He did not do any insane, ruthless things to get his wealth. Even though he
treated his workers as bad as anyone could be treated, he still worked hard and did everything he
needed to to become a billionaire and have a huge successful company like the one he ended up
having. So, considering he created these huge billion dollar company, he is not a robber baron.
So, this is the second reason why J. Pierpont Morgan would be considered as a Captain of
Industry.
The last reason why he is a Captain of Industry is because he helped Thomas Edison
create his wonderful light company. This shows that he is helping others and does not just care
about him making billions of dollars. If he is a robber baron he would try to make the company
his own and get all the billions of money that went with the successful company. Considering
him helping out Thomas Edison makes me think he for sure not a Robber Baron. The
