Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard is about Ali DiLaurentis, the queen bee, Aria Montgomery, the artsy girl, Emily Fields, the swimmer, Hanna Marin, the girl who wants to be popular like Ali, and Spencer Hastings, the girl who is brave enough to stand up against Ali, are an exclusive group of friends. When Ali goes missing, the rest of the group splits. Three years later, Aira is back from Iceland and meets Ezra Fitz and they hook up, but he happens to be her English teacher. Emily, who lives next door to Ali’s old house, befriends Maya, the new girl. She develops feelings for her and becomes confused about her sexuality. Emily, who is crushing on the new girl, is dating Ben, the swimmer jock. Emily is confused about how she feels about Ben when she and Maya go to the creek to swim. At practice, the next day, Emily is preoccupied with what happened with Maya. She is not focused and she swims very fast and Ben gets upset, because she is on his butt. They get into and argument, because she wants to swim ahead of him and he won’t let her.
