In the short story “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, writes about a relationship between Jing-Mei and her mother, and how external conflict can be developed even through the discussion of success. Jing-Mei mother wants the best for her daughter; her mother states that America is a place for dreams to come true, basically the American Dream. Jing-Mei rejects and dislikes her mother opinions about becoming a prodigy of someone famous in life. Even though Jing-Mei mother already planned her future. Jing-Mei didn't see the big picture as well as her mother, she wanted something different. Jing-Mei mother as an immigrant believed her daughter can have a bright future. Jing-mei felt pressure at time to make her proud of her, but it never really worked. “After seeing, once again my mother disappointed face, something deep inside me began urge.” Jing Mei would always listen to her mom of what she wanted for her “you could be this, you could be that.” At time Jing-Mei took her nonsense and talk about HER future. Her mother really never bother asking her mother what Jing-mei wanted in her future, what she wanted to become or her interest in life. She really didn't have that bond with her mom like some other mother and daughters. In conclusion Jing-Mei mother did not really let Jing-Mei be herself. Her mother and her being immigrants in United States is something Jing- Mei mother to take advantage from because she did think he daughter can become whatever she wanted to be in life. Amy Tan demonstrates the relationship of mother and daughter. Stating the fact that mother and daughter relationship is not easy,but I also Amy Tan is sending a message to.
