Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, better known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, was born on September 24, 1896 in Minnesota. He started writing at a young age. He even wrote musicals while attending college. Fitzgerald usually wrote short stories, novels, and poems. He influenced the United States of America and a great part of the world by being a member of the lost generation. Due to his alcoholism he died on December 21, 1940 in Los Angeles, California while writing his last book. Fitzgerald used to portray the jazz age through his work. Some of his works include; This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, The Great Gatsby, and Tender Is the Night. He was born on June 17, 1871 in Florida. He became very popular during the Harlem Renaissance for his works, most of which represented the black culture. During his life he accomplished a fair amount of things. He was the first African-American professor to be hired by the New York University. He was also part of the leadership of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He died on June 26, 1938 in Maine while vacationing. During his carrier, James Weldon won many awards. Some of this are; The Harmon Gold Award for God’s Trombone, the Spingarn Medal from the NAACP for his accomplishments as a Negro, and a W.E.B. Du Bois Prize. Weldon is also known as one of the greatest 100 African-Americans. Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 in Illinois. He was an author and journalist. Most of Hemingway’s work was during the 1920s and the 1950s. This works are considered classics of the American Literature and have been very influential for every single generation after him. He fought on World War I, World War II, and the Spanish Civil War. There he suffered from many different things. But from that suffering came something good, his works. His plays are characterized for introducing the drama techniques of realism and for involving the characters in the brink of a hopeless society, were they had to remain positive, even though they would always end up disappointed. Most of his work consisted in tragedies and pessimism. It was rare of him to write comedies. Sadly, Eugene O’Neill had to stop writing due to his Parkinson. He died on November 27, 1953 in Boston. James Mercer Langston Hughes was an African American who was born on February 1, 1902 in Missouri. He was a playwright, a novelist, a columnist, and a poet. Through his works he tried to convince his African American readers to proud of themselves. He also participated in social activist activities and was part of the Harlem Renaissance. He was one of the firsts to write about the Jazz Age. He died on May 22, 1967 due to some surgery
