After three years in the FFA organization, I have learned one thing, you can always benefit from sitting at the feet of experienced leaders. Therefore, I applied for the opportunity to attend a leadership training supported by the Rotary Club. The only issue was that the Rotary Club liked to take young people and train them to be leaders not just hone previously developed leadership skills. After taking a chance and submitting my resume and going through the interview process, I was accepted into the program. It was clearly understood I had to be open and flexible to possibly reshaping my leadership techniques with their program. However, after a lot of reflection, I came to the conclusion my dependence on technology could be a distraction as a participant and this would be an incredible opportunity I would never have again. Beyond the break from technology, another aspect which brought me out of my comfort zone was the fact the students at the conference represented a diverse cross-section of Texas from about a 600 mile radius of Central Texas. As a young person growing up in a small rural town, being able to experience and interact with individuals from a variety of cultures and backgrounds was an incredible opportunity for me. Throughout the conference, we were divided into teams, and I was a part of Team 3. There were so many differences between us, it was hard to find any common ground at first. At first the group struggled to come together, but soon we realized that our different experiences and perceptions made us a strong unit as we were given tasks to complete. Through this simple task of group work, I began to realize just how special this leadership training was for me and my future. For example, when we had a treasure hunt, and only one person could talk. To say the least, our communication skills were tested, but each of us stepped up with different ways of expressing our ideas
