The main purpose of this chapter is to determine the Founding Fathers’ motives for creating the Constitution by analyzing a secondary source by Woody Holton, and several primary sources. Frist, I will begin with the secondary source, “Unruly Americans and the Origins of the Constitution” by Woody Holton. Mr. Holton’s main purpose was to locate the motivation behind the Constitution in developments in the states (page 90). Mr. Holton addressed several grievances for possible motives of the Founding Fathers’. There were many things that the colonizers from Europe did not anticipate in the New World. The many things they did not expect were strange plants, landscapes, weather, and mysterious natives.
As with all expeditions to the New World the reasons vary. Some came from across the sea in the hopes of finding riches or glory, others came to spread religion or to follow their own religion without proscoucation. Whatever the reason, all those who eventually made it through the first few years had something in common, support and numbers. Support came in many ways, supplies, food, money, help from the Natives or help from home. Although important, it was not what would ultimately make or break a settlement, instead it was numbers and manpower.

Because they wanted to start a new life and have more land to settle on. But there was problems with other settlers wanting the same land because there were great trade routes and dangerous animals and other deadly things to worry about. History is fraught with examples of governments and principles which, in their infancy, were unable to escape controversy and therefore have become the subjects of much political and academic discourse. The Constitutional Convention, convened by the early United States in 1786, is one such example of this phenomena. With two distinct sides arguing very different point, the Constitutional Convention set the stage whereby the longest-lasting written government in the history of the earth would be both drafted and implemented. Colonist had their reasons for coming over to the New World. For many it was for economic growth, religious freedoms, or escaping the political and social systems of their native lands. They enjoyed their freedoms and liberties as new societies while being developed, but it was not an easy accomplishment. The colonist worked hard on developing their towns on their beliefs and values far from the reach of England. As time went on, there was growing tension between the thirteen American colonies and England, their motherland.
Jamestown may have prospered, given proper usage of time and energy. The colonists of Jamestown have made many mistakes, which led to the downfall of Jamestown. Many were not prepared to colonize. If changes were made to the types of people sent, location, supplies sent, government and plans of growth, Jamestown surely would have done much better. With these changes, the outcome of colonizing in Jamestown would have been much easier and prosperous.

Native Americans flourished in North America, but over time white settlers came and started invading their territory. Native Americans were constantly being thrown and pushed off their land. Sorrowfully this continued as the Americans looked for new opportunities and land in the West. When the whites came to the west, it changed the Native American’s lives forever. The Native Americans had to adapt to the whites, which was difficult for them.
