When education is discussed a big part of it is planning for the future. When this is being done it is important to think about how technology will come along. The book Fahrenheit 451 has a theme that is based on fireman who start fires rather then put them out and they do this by burning books. This book was written more than a decade ago. Some aspects of the theme of the book have come true. People are too busy with their lives to have human interaction, this could include being tied up with loud music, wall TV’s, fast cars and so much more. It is up to the educators of today to bring back the importance of hard books and teach today’s generation why they are still needed. The job description for fireman is for them to burn books. This is a time where the people of the city are afraid of firemen. As a result of their fear, no one wants to stand up for independence, and the towns people report anyone who they suspect has any books in their possession. Montagg is the protagonist in the story and he never realized that whenever the firemen get a call it is in the middle of the night. Montagg thought he liked his job until he met Clarisse. Clarisse was an old soul trapped in a young persons’s body. She did not fit in with her time and so the people thought she was crazy. Which was far from the truth. A big reason could be because people are becoming too busy and wrapped up in their own lives they no longer make time for others. Another big factor could be that technology begins to take over people lives. People in this generation would rather get lost in T.V families then face reality. In the story Montagg’s wife discusses how she wishes she could get a fourth wall T.V. put in their bedroom. This means there is already three wall T.V.’s in her room and it discusses how expensive they are. It is thought that she feels a 4th one would complete her because it would completely box her in and therefore she would feel like she does not need to face reality because she can just get lost in her somewhat of a box that covers the walls of her bedroom and makes her feels that she would never need to leave from there. This is an aspect of the book that seems to have come at least partially true in today’s world. In today’s world people are so wrapped up with technology that they can be in the same room as someone and both of them are on their phones or on the computer, or internet, and people believe if they are in the same room that is spending time together. This is especially true with social networks such as Facebook or twitter. People become addicted to sites and allows it to have a negative impact on other aspects of life.
