Since the beginning of human civilization, the advancement of technology has progressed by a method of developing ideas based on what exists. Ray Bradbury predicted many things, such as ear buds and large color TVs. He predicted that increased aggression and desensitization to violence would happen after extensive viewing of violent media. The last thing that Bradbury foresaw was that technology would negatively impact memory. Ray Bradbury has made predictions about mental health and technology, and some of them have come true.

Many of Bradbury’s predictions on technology have become reality. One of the most accurate predictions he made was TVs. Although TVs were around in the 50s, there were no color TVs. In Fahrenheit 451, there were full …show more content…

There are many moments in the book where the TVs are mentioned. One of these is when Montag is talking to Clarisse and she mentions that people just watch “the wall and all the coloured patterns running up and down” (Bradbury 28). Here she proves that they have colored television. In real life there are many examples of large, high resolution TVs. One of the largest TVs that is on the market is by Sony, which is “available in 85 inches” (Sony Slim TV). This TV is very similar to the full wall televisors in Fahrenheit 451. When people watch violent tv shows, they become physically aggressive. In the novel, people in society express how they are violent. One of these people is Montag's wife, Mildred. One day when Montag comes home from work, he is upset. Mildred notices this and says “‘the keys to the beetle are on the night table. I always like to drive fast when I feel that way. You get it up around ninety five and you feel wonderful. Sometimes I drive all night and come back and you don't know it. It's fun out in the country. You hit rabbits, sometimes you hit dogs’” (Bradbury 61). Because of Mildred's constant use of the parlor and its TV’s, she is more violent, and this is how it is today as well. Over the past few years, scientists have been researching whether or not violent media makes people more aggressive. One study says that “early childhood exposure to TV violence predicted aggressive behavior for both males and females in adulthood” (Early Exposure to TV Violence Predicts Aggression in Adulthood). Bradbury’s prediction of the effects of violent media on people was correct. Next, watching violent media or playing violent video games desensitizes people to violence. When Montag is with his wife, she is watching a TV show. It's a very violent show, and Mildred thinks it is very funny instead of being appalled by the gore. As
