In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the protagonist, Montag, a Firefighter lives in a dystopia where books can not be kept or read.The government has brainwashed Montag into believing books contain bad things until certain people he meets make him reevaluate his thoughts. He soon realizes what he lacks in his life without books and how he needs to change what happens to bring quality into his life and others. In Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse, Faber, and the old woman appear briefly but become a significant presence in Montag’s life. Clarisse, a young girl, whom he meets on his way back from work one day becomes important to Montag because she gets him to think about himself and how he feels. He goes to find him because he worries that he does not understand the book he stole from the old woman's house. He needs advice from Faber about how he should proceed in his current situation. Faber tells him about his life, and how things used to happen when books were allowed, and how he is a coward and just let the government get rid of books. Faber also tells Montag about the three features everyone lacks in their life. The first feature Faber tells Montag regards that no one's life has quality. Life becomes the same boring routine with no time for adventures or activities that they want to do. The second explains how everyone always has a full schedule and no time for leisure. They do not have any time to think which helps the government so people do not revolt. The last feature that they do not have happens to use the information from the interaction with the first two. If they have quality and leisure they would realize that the government controls them and revolt. “So now do you see why books are feared and hated?”(79).With these qualities, a person can think for themselves and chose how they want to live their life which goes against the government. These things Faber tells Montag also help him realize what he needs to gain to live a good
