“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination”(brainy quotes). Ray Bradbury shows us how society is growing and advancing each day through the main character Guy Montag who rethinks his life, Mildred, Montag’s wife and Clarisse a teenage girl who questions society, all in the book Fahrenheit 451. The world of F-451 and the United States are similar because of the technology and books but differ because of their firemen. The first reason F-451 and the U.S. are similar is because of the technology. For instance, Mildred, Montag’s wife says “How long you figure before we save up and get the fourth wall torn out and a fourth wall-TV put in”(Bradbury,18)? Furthermore, All Mildred talks about is her parlor(a small cube with TV’s screens covering the whole wall/walls) and about how she wants the fourth wall and that “it’s only 2,000 dollars”(#18). According to The Blaze.com, “We have gotten to a point where we would rather be with a machine than a person,”(John Horvat). This shows that F-451 and the U.S. are similar because in F-451 they talk about their parlor all the time and in the U.S. people “would rather be with a machine than a person”. In conclusion, F-451 and the U.S. relate to each other because of the citizens …show more content…
and the F-451 world share in common are how they treat books. For example, Guy Montag, a middle age man in the book F-451, said, “He looked with dismay at the floor. We burned an old woman with her books.”(Bradbary,47) This is similar to the U.S. because according to Huffington Post.com, “A book has less than one percent chance of being stocked in an average bookstore.” Most people would think that this means they are different but if you think about it both worlds, aren't that much different, this proves that F-451 and the U.S. are similar because both societies are reading less and less. To sum up, the U.S. and F-451 world share in common books because each society is not reading as much as they used
