Some people may think living in a society where books are illegal is way funnier. Bradbury contrasts that, and gives us a new light with using Fahrenheit 451. Reading affects us by it gives us a positive attitude, gives us a sense of confidence and hope, and giving us knowledge. One of the ways reading positively affects us are giving us a positive attitude. In “Harry Potter Boosts Tolerance”, Scientific American says, ‘The researchers first asked 34 elementary schoolchildren their opinions of immigrants, who are often disliked in Italy... A week after the last session, the researchers asked the children about their immigrants for a second time. The researchers found that children who had read passages about prejudice had more positive opinions of immigrants than they had before.” This evidence shows that reading positively makes us have a more positive attitude, like how the children had against immigrant’s despite being disliked in Italy, when we read it gives us a more positive attitude to be more kind for the underprivileged, like the …show more content…

In “Free Speech Fight’, Joanna Scutts says, “Betty Smith’s 1943 novel, ‘A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,’ was about a teenage girl growing up in a poor and loving immigrant community in New York. It touched many soldiers and sailors deeply as they saw the young girl’s word as their own. One injured young Marine told the author that a ‘surge of confidence has swept through me and I feel that maybe a fellow has fighting chance in this world after all.” This piece of evidence means that reading heart-felt books makes us confident, and gives us a somewhat sense of hope. In the Marine case, he feels a sense of hope and confidence in fighting again because of the book.
