In the famous words of Jose Saramago, “Why did we become blind, I don't know, perhaps one day we'll find out, Do you want me to tell you what I think, Yes, do, I don't think we did go blind, I think we are blind, Blind but seeing, Blind people who can see, but do not see.” This quote describes distress and not having the opportunity to live life how everyone should live. They should be able to experience things anyone spying on them. As well as being a happy society, not being sad every point of the day. “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury is meant to portray a dystopian society. In the town Montag lives in, everyone is unhappy and a lot of deaths occur. Also crime comes up on a daily basis. Clarisse was talking to Montag about all the heinous …show more content…
As Mrs. Bowles is explaining how she decides who she want as president she says, “‘compare Winston Noble to Herbert Hoag for ten seconds and you can almost figure out the results”’( 97).Where Montag lives, the government having a say in everything they do and say relates to dystopia. Everyone is persuaded by each other into narrowing down two candidates for president, and then picking out as a society based on looks and names who they think is “best fit” for president. Additionally, another reason why this is a dystopian society, is because when women think of having kids where Montag lives, it is not about love, or even the desire to have them. While Mrs. Phelps was talking to Mildred, she states “‘I plunk the children in school nine days out of ten… It's like washing clothes:stuff laundry in and slam the lid”(97).The fact that Mrs. Phelps describes her kids as laundry, and doesn’t interact with them what so ever is saying without a doubt the society she lives in is very dystopian and full of misery. Another factor in a dystopian society is the government taking over all of the citizens in the society, and not having a say in basically anything that goes on.Deciding who becomes the president of Montag’s society is not a …show more content…
As the firemen were destroying Montag’s house down, Beatty was throwing jabs at Montag and criticising him in any way he could. All of Montag’s anger built up an he just lost it. Montag being furious and done with everything describes how he is killing Beatty “And then he was a shrieking blaze,a jumping sprawling gibbering mannikin, no longer human or known, all writing flame on the lawn as Montag shot one continuous pulse of liquid on him”(119). Montag was over with what Beatty had put him through, and just his job in general, so being in a dystopian society that he lives in, he decided it would be in his best interest to just finish him off and kill him. Adding on, in a hateful and unreasonable place Montag lives in, people will kill a totally random person who didn’t commit any crime whatsoever just to keep the citizens in the society entertained. While the random man was taking a walk, they spotted who was supposed to be Montag “the innocent man stood bewildered...the hound leapt up into the air with a rhythm and a sense of timing that was incredibly beautiful. Its needle shot out”(149). While the people in the town are watching and waiting for the mechanical hound to catch and kill Montag, they can’t find him so the government needs to improvise because the citizens in the society have a very short attention span. So they see someone just wondering around outside that looks
