Ray Douglas Bradbury was born in 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois. Over the span of forty years, he produced numerous literary works that solidified him as one of the most popular American authors. He is known for making works of the science fiction genre (“Ray Bradbury (b. 1920)” 97). However, the science fiction genre isn’t his main theme. Bradbury’s main theme in all his writings is his sense of what is best for America and its people. He explores the possibilities that would make humanity the best it can be (“Ray Bradbury (b. 1920)” 98). In one of his best works, Fahrenheit 451, he uses this theme by showing how humanity needs more awareness of human nature. Mildred’s betrayal of Montag emphasizes the deep impact of censorship on relationships. In the real world, any normal person would have a talk with their spouse in this type of situation. But due to the censorship in Fahrenheit 451, Mildred doesn’t have the ability to think about her decision. She wants to get away from books and keep watching television as soon as possible. The censorship in this dystopian society has formed a population of mindless people who don’t value the true meaning of relationships. The limited access of information inflicts harm upon the people in the novel. Many of these people are unable to get valuable information and can only use their knowledge from the media. They don’t get the advice that they need to make a successful business. A nonconformist, Clarisse McLellan, endeavors to help Montag realize the suppression of knowledge and the need for change.
