The Dangers Of Censorship And Mass Media Societies in the world all have contributors to their downfall or corruption and these contributors have the ability to turn people into puppets. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury, depicts a dystopian city in America with the main character Guy Montag. Guy discovers through the duration of the novel that the world he lives in silences people from discovering the truth. People will become complicit in the world if they do not expose or speak the truth about society. Censoring books and media may lead to a lack of knowledge. With all of that in mind, people in real life are beginning to experience the same emotions that Montag does, with some struggling to not dissent into problems with society, and an interview with Howard Zinn proves that people are struggling with being silenced and mass media making it easier for people to be silenced.“It is always easier to suppress dissent when you are in a war, when you are engaging in military activity, and therefore when you can claim dissent cannot be allowed because it’s dangerous to the security of the nation”. This relates to the idea of censorship and mass media being a problem, with people serving in war not being able to tell what really happens and that the media portrays war’s as one country being the good guys while the other is the bad guy’s, despite not knowing what the other side thinks of the war. With all this information in mind, both Montag and Zinn give clear examples of how people are censored by mass media when they are trying to expose the truth or wanting to speak freely.
