Books burn at 451 degrees Fahrenheit. The book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, follows a protagonist named Guy Montag who is a firefighter, yet instead of saving houses from fire (the walls and outside of houses are fireproof) he burns the books inside of houses. This is because in this place books are banned and no one can own them or read them. Though Guy Montag started to get interested in the world around him and he started looking at what is around him more carefully so he soon starts to realize what the government is hiding, by banning books so he starts to share his opinions with others but many people don’t like what he has to say and are open to new ideas. Near the middle of the book, Guy starts to read books. He had started stealing books, the books that he was supposed to burn because that is his job as a fireman who burns books. Books are illegal too so he should not be reading or have books. He started reading the books because he wanted to know why he isn't allowed to read books and what they contain. "There must be something in books, things we can't imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don't stay for nothing. "(Bradburry 48) This quote is about a woman who was caught having a collection of books in her house and did not want to leave her house and wanted to be in her house with the books while the books were being burned (this would mean that the women would also be burned and would not survive). So this is proving that Guy Montag sees that books must mean something important if someone is willing to die with their books. But now that he had actually thought about the effect that he caused by burning so much knowledge and so much of people's hard work and even some authors' life work. Therefore, this proves that Guy has finally realized the importance that books have. Books can reveal many emotions. Later in the book Guy Montag has a lot of books because after a while of taking books instead of burning them (he is supposed to burn books for his job) so after a while he contains a collection of books. So with all these books he wants to spread the information that they contain so he starts to get his wifes friends and his wife and he would read them so parts of books so that they could know what books contain.
