The lessons we are learning in this novel are an issue that continues to be relevant today. In this novel, the government controls everything including what people do, think, and say. Burning books is a way for the government to control thoughts and limit access to information. This leads to people being unable to express themselves and has severe consequences. In the story, some people who have books and think critically are punished and burn their house because of their ideas. This shows how censorship is dangerous. This is important because it shows that censorship is a tool of oppression that is used to stifle dissent and control people’s thoughts and ideas. As Captain Beatty argues in the novel, “We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal.
