“Fahrenheit 451”, by Ray Bradbury was a book written in 1953 which can be interpreted as a social criticism of the present world. In Fahrenheit 451 there is a lot of book burning which equals to the burning of knowledge and history. There is also a lack of relationship, love and communication due to technology taking over the homes of the characters. There is also a criticism of schools and the way children are taught. Montag, the main character of the novel, has lived his whole life burning the books and he barely knows his wife even though they live under the same roof. “Fahrenheit 451” criticizes the effects of technology on families and communities, and there is also a criticism of schooling and the knowledge kept from the students. Bradbury criticizes the way students are taught in Montags world. A girl named Clarisse who seems to be the only girl that’s different from anyone Montag knows, is aware that her school only teaches what they want the students to know and nothing else. “An hour of TV class, an hour of basketball another hour of transcription history or painting pictures, and more sports, ...we never ask questions, they just run the answer at you… ...and us sitting there for four more hours… ...” ( Bradbury, p. 29) this is an example of social criticism because the teachers don’t let the students (Clarisse) ask questions, instead they just feed them with facts and knowledge but only of …show more content…
