What is faith? Many world religions have their own definition of faith. Today, faith seems to be defined as “belief with no evidence”. I never once stopped to think what faith meant to me. While talking and watching videos about faith and evolution in Mr. Carasco’s pre TOK class and my biology class, I came to discover my own definition of faith. After discussing this subject in class, I have come to conclude that faith has two meanings; the first one is the complete trust or confidence in someone or something, and the second is the belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof. However, in my opinion, faith is what pushes people to do what they do and to be who they ought to be, and without faith one can’t make it through the day. I am a Christian, I do believe in God and Jesus. However, since I’ve started to read more about Darwin’s theory of evolution, I have come to conclude that I now question what I have been brought up to believe in. Lately I find myself asking: how could one believe in something that isn’t backed by evidence? Why should I believe in blind faith? Charles Darwin made me look at life in a different way and made me change my whole definition of faith, although was extremely controversial in the area of science and reason versus faith. Ultimately whatever faith of religious beliefs we follow, they all end up with the same conclusion: believing what you want to believe yet cannot prove. I am still debating whether Darwin’s theory is the most logical of explaining evolution since it is backed up by concrete evidence, or, whether I believe in faith since it gives you a path to follow in your life, and meaning to
