Faiz shows people hoping to overcome the darkness and the pain, concealing themselves from it, hoping it will just get better. He repeats the subject of night, almost like day does not exist. “At this hour when night comes down . . . dragging its long face, dressed in mourning” (554). People tend to relate mourning with the color black, which relates to night and darkness, which could also be related to sadness and other dark emotions like pain. Faiz uses certain combinations of words to express his emotions, like “Though they have stolen my paper and pen, I don't grieve. I dip my fingers into my heart's blood” (551). This quote explains that even though they took away the two things that helps him express what he feels, it does not matter to him because he will still pour his heart out either way. He does not actually use the blood from his heart, but the words that he chose makes the emotion stronger, and in turn makes the readers feel what he wants them to. It can show readers pain he had gone through, as does another quote from a different poem “Prison Meeting”. “The branches of this tree of night shoot arrows into my heart”
