The Fall of Stalingrad was significant due to the issues that began the battle, the counteroffensive by Soviet Union, and Soviet Union’s victory. Nazi Germany launched Operation Barbarossa to try to invade the Soviet Union on June 22,1941. During this time, Nazi Germany had suffered numerous defeats and the Soviet Union had an advantage. The Soviet army counter-attacked during the Battle of Moscow on October 2,1941-January 7,1942. They successfully drove away Germany’s military force from the remaining area of Moscow. A year later, Germany has stabilized and the Wehrmacht had confidence that they would defeat the Red army (Soviet Union) when winter will no longer delay their mobility. The Germany army wants to attack where least expected. The United States had joined the War when Germany declared war. Furthermore, Hitler wanted to decrease the fighting on the eastern front before the United states get deeply involved in the war.
