From 2001 to today, Fall Out Boy has become one of the iconic teenage boy-bands. If you were to start playing it in a room full of females, there’s a 80% chance someone would start screaming. The legacy began in Illinois as a hard-core rock band, where Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, and Joe Trohman (they went through a series of drummers before deciding on Andy Hurley) stood in Joe’s garage fishing for old, battered instruments. There they created their first album, Take This to Your Grave. Next, they produced From Under the Cork Tree, Infinity on High, and the flop of Folie a Deux, before they went on hiatus just to come back three years later and create Save Rock and Roll.
1. The ‘Drake, Hotline Bling’ source is about a man and a woman who were in a relationship and the woman went down the wrong track. The guy writing is jealous and possessive over the woman. The stakeholder Drake’s main argument is the woman shouldn’t have left him because now she’s getting herself into trouble. He’s trying to get the message across that he’s unhappy with the way his relationship ended.
“Stressed Out” by Twenty-One Pilots is a charismatic anthem that resonates with a wide range of listeners. Its melodies and lyrics capture the struggles that come with one's upbringing into adulthood as a teenager. The song brings a nostalgic atmosphere back to our childhood. It’s powerful, relatable, and deeply moving. I chose this anthem not only because I enjoy it, but because of its refreshing honesty.
For my final performance, I plan to be involved in three pieces. One piece by Jaressha Baker, another by Brooklyn Hill, and one by myself. Jaressha’s idea is to end the show singing “It's the Hard-Knock Life” from the musical Annie while portraying the stories of Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice, and Eric Garner. The lyrics that will be used are “It's a hard-knock life for us, it's a hard-knock life for us. ‘Stead of treated we get tricked.
Heartbreak Hotel is a song that was recorded by Elvis Presley and was written by a high school teacher named Mae Axton and a steel guitar player named Tommy Durden. It was recorded and released in January 1956 by RCA Studios. Elvis was only 21 and Heartbreak Hotel was his first song with the new record label RCA in Nashville, Tennessee. He recorded the song with his band the Blue moon boys. It was his first million-seller and the bestselling single of 1956.
Fall Out Boy released their hit album, “American Beauty/American Psycho” in January of 2015. “American Beauty/American Psycho” consisted of eleven songs such as, “Fourth of July,” “Centuries,” and “Uma Thurman.” This album’s music was a mix of hard rock and pop. There was occasionally a song with a slower tempo or a screamer. This album speaks about important topics and there was no incorrect song placement.
Third, there is parenting. Teens are looking for music that separates them from their parents’ generation. Nowadays, some parents are fine with their children listening to that type of music. On the other hand, others are outraged with their child’s music preference (Bailey
In the music world long ago, artists were talented songwriters, performers, and musicians. In today’s society, many aspiring musicians dream of following in the footsteps of the great performers that lived long before them. As a result, many artists decide to do cover versions of songs that were made famous by some of the greatest musicians to ever walk the earth in hopes of becoming just like their idols. While many performers tend to do renditions of songs, meaning that they are done almost the exact same way as the original, some artists may decide to do transformations of original songs, meaning that the idea of the song is still there, but they change certain aspects of the song to make it their own. In one particular case, there is one specific song that follows the idea of song transformation, in which made the song most well known for.
The song I chose to do for this essay was Finish Line / Drown by Chance the Rapper from his album, Coloring Book. The song is performed by Chance, Noname, Eryn Allen Kane, T-Pain, and Kirk Franklin. The first thing I heard Chance humming, then females joining him singing do-do-do-do-do-do-do. Chance keeps the same tempo as he is rapping his first verse. I noticed that the song has two parts to it.
Jay Sean, “Down”, gives us his perspective on how to achieve the love of a girl that you have been desiring to have in a simple and romantic way. We can see this representing throughout the word options, examples on how to accomplish, and giving his justification on how hard he will try to successfully achieve the lover. In this delightful piece of Sean song, he gives us a warm hearted explanation on how he is feeling and shows how pursuing it can be to chase after the girl you like or love. Sean will also constantly ask the most rhetorical questions in the song which is, “Baby are you down, down, down, down, down, down, down”. Having to say that, in this song , Lil Wayne is featured in this composition too and he contradicts his ways on what he will take to do and have the
Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.
There have been many protest songs in the United States; the freedom of speech has contributed to powerful music and protest words that are written in song. The song that will be discussed throughout this essay is “American Idiot” by Green day. This song speaks volume about the uneducated “America” and puts emphasis on the destruction that reality television is making on the United States of America. Listening to the unspoken word and read between the lies, for that then you will understand. The song “American Idiot” was released during the 2004 presidential election, where George W. Bush was selected into office for the second term as President of the United States of America (source).
The song that I chose was “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. It was released in 2004, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It also hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100. Natasha Bedingfield has another popular song “Pocketful of Sunshine” and was really only popular in 2004-2006. You can find her songs on multiple 00’s playlists.
Since the late 1980’s the music industry has seen a development in the phenomena of pop vocal all male groups referred to as ‘boy bands’. These so-called boy bands have proven to be quite the craze for young teenage girls who invest their time creating loyal followings (fan bases) for them by promoting their albums, making signs and waiting in lines for hours just to see them in concert. Each generation has their fair share of successful boy bands. For me, it was *Nsync and for my sister ,it’s One Direction. There hasn’t been a single car journey that passes by without listening to both bands followed by the both of us arguing about which one is better.
Ever since 2008 ,when the song “Love Story” by Taylor Swift came out, it has been very relevant to current culture. Most teenagers in this decade would know this song if it came on the radio. With catchy choruses and melodies, it follows the love story of Romeo and Juliet, not the tragic side. In the authentic script, Romeo and Juliet meet at Juliet’s party and fall in love as soon as they lay eyes on eachother. Taylor Swift describes their meeting as, “See the lights; see the party, the ball gowns.
