As time has progressed, unreliable news has become more common than factual news, and people are trusting fictitious information rigorously. It’s hard to decipher between the two, and people do not regularly check the facts they are contributing to daily conversations. False information creates a false reality for a majority of people. Contrary to belief, millenials are not the only ones receiving news from social media. 67% of Americans get some news from social media, and of those 67%, 55% are people ages 50 and above (Wagner). Social media platforms allow people to surround himself or herself with people they like and share opinions with. If they do not want to hear what another person says that goes against their own beliefs, they can unfriend or block them in just one click. Platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are common places people receive their news (Wagner). These sites are very unreliable, however, because it often only portrays one side of the story-- the one that the individual agrees with.
