In order for a customer to travel to the destination advertised, these websites have to grab and maintain a customer’s attention. The images capture exquisite moments of Hawaii that could be defined as adventurous, pleasurable, and/or astonishing; in addition, the accompanying text delivers a well-thought description of each image by integrating visual imagery within each section. Within the “Family Fun in Hawaii” section of the tourism website, they incorporate pathos in the picture displayed below the title of the section and use visual imagery, along with vivid diction throughout the text to convince a family-oriented person to vacation in Hawaii. In this section, there is a photo of a family on a boat enjoying the view off in the distance. The image establishes a positive emotional appeal (pathos) when you notice the family smiling and laughing as a whole, but the image does not present to us what the family is observing.
