Texas is home to nearly 10,000 nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners (NPs) in Texas do not have as many freedoms as NP 's in many other states. In fact, Texas falls at the lower end of the spectrum regarding the freedoms it offers nurse practitioners. House Bill 1885 would grant full practice authority in Texas to all advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), including nurse practitioners (NPs). It would authorize APRNs to evaluate and diagnose patients; order and interpret diagnostic tests; and initiate and manage treatments; prescribing of medications, these are currently job descriptions of APRNs and NPs that they are already doing, however, it would move these items under the exclusive licensure authority of the Texas Board of Nursing.
This supplement is a record of my actions in cases 16-125169 (April10, 2016) and 16-125698 (April 12, 2016). On April 12, 2016 I was assigned case 16-125169 which involves Ms. Mya Navia a fourteen year old Francis Hammond School Student. On April 13, 2016, I was assigned a second case which was 16-125698 involving the same juvenile. Being a parent of a child with chronic issues I feel I have an added insight to many medical and emotional situations. Direct patient contact and being in charge of the direction of my patient’s care why I want to be a FNP and not a PA. As a FNP I would like to be involved in the community based services like the county health department, healthy start and BCMH because these programs helped me when I was a scared, uncertain parent. Educating patients about community services is vital to patient care.
My passion for nursing practice defies description; leading to the reason I am opting to pursue a higher level of education in nursing. The George Washington University School of nursing has one of the highly ranked master’s programs in the country, which offers a competitive curriculum and highly defined leadership skills that integrates technology into learning. I am the last child in a family of eight that has aspired to pursue my education at the graduate level.
My knowledge in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) continues to expand as I progress through the DNP program. The knowledge I have attained while in the study of the DNP I and DNP II is priceless. For example, recognizing stakeholders and utilizing networking has helped me to progress on my DNP project (Gokenbach, 2012). I also have a better understanding as well as the purpose of a DNP project. My mentors have been great in directing me in remaining on the right track.

I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population.
