In this novel, the author mainly use two story lines as a contrast. The first line was the family of Eliza ,who were steadily against predestination of the life as slaves, and the other one was Uncle Tom who was loyal and honest to his master and life. Both of them were African American slaves. However, the different attitudes towards their lives caused the differences in their ultimate outcomes. Family of Eliza was successfully escaped, while Uncle Tom was castigated atrociously to death by his master. Eliza was a mixed blood female slave, who was raised by Mrs. Shelby. After her marriage, her first and second children came to an untimely end of their lives. As a result, she loved her only son deeply . When she heard that her master wanted to sell her child to the slave trader, she was distressed enormously. She left her home in Shelby’s farm, with her child, running away. Facing the Ohio River, with slave holders in pursuit, she jumped unto the large ice fragments and jumped across the river. Eliza was a pious Christian with loyalty to god and her masters. After that, in the farm of Simon Legree, he refused to scourge another female African American salve. As a punishment from his master, Mr Legree deadly scourged Uncle Tom. Moreover he refused the invitation from Kathy of running away. He believed that he should just obey the God’s will of his time of freedom. At the end of the novel, Uncle Tom was finally scourged to death. The destination for Uncle Tom was miserable and lamentable. He was nearly always loyal to his masters and suffered the unfair treatment silently. He hardly resisted. Death was his
