“The Glass Castle” is a biography, drama written by Destin Daniel Cretton; it portrays a young girl (Jeanette Walls) and her family as they struggle in poverty stricken towns with a mother who is an eccentric artist and her alcoholic father who she blindly puts her faith in. The film was released on August 11, 2017 and features Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts among others. The big question, “What do I think about “The Glass Castle” film? The film was dissatisfying overall, I did not feel same emotional attachment that I felt with the book. They did not show enough of Jeanette and Rex’s connection to each other.
In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury established a society in which they are no limits to the vehicles they drive in order to blind the community of their curiosity. Vehicles, no matter the size or shape have speed that not many cars should not be pushed to. In Montag’s society, as a result of this many citizens including one of Mildred’s friend states that she drives at such a speed not to get jailed by the government that she doesn’t clearly see her environment when driving her car. Mildred being used to this responds as if she has been through this scenario a numerous number of times when she looks out the window and only sees blurs and can’t really interpret her environment. Clarisse explaining to Montag, “If you showed a driver a green blur,
“Do you know why books such as this are important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me, it means texture” (Bradbury). By texture, Ray Bradbury implies that books provide knowledge and wisdom that is needed in a society.
Ray Bradbury shows a clear hatred towards the civilization of fahrenheit 451 for quite a few reasons. Such as the ideas of intellectual books being banned and replaced with movies and videos that require no one to put an thought and just be mindlessly fed information by the government. We know this because the book fahrenheit 451 came out a bit after the end of WWII and hitler burned books like in F451 and the tv age was beginning where many people were buying tvs and less books Bradbury feared this could end the creating of books and that books would be permanently replace. I believe that one of ray bradbury most powerful ways to establish an alternate reality is characterization. Characterization is the emotion and the mindset of a character.
Not ever negative situation leads to an unwelcome outcome. Flannery O’Connor introduces how conflict changes a character for the better in her short story “Revelation”. The main character, Mrs. Turpin, likes to categorize the people she meets base on their looks and possessions. She is suddenly attacked by a patient named Mary-Grace, who is then quickly sedated. However, before the medication takes effect Mary-Grace leaves Mrs. Turpin with an insult that leaves a lasting impression that causes the protagonist to think deeply about herself as a person.
(MIP) This meme focuses on one of the key messages conveyed by the government in Fahrenheit 451, that books should be avoided and people should not read them. (SIP A) The Government trying to persuade people away from books, is a key implication in both, Fahrenheit 451 and this meme. (STEWE 1) When Clarisse McClellan encounters Montag for the first time, she seems to be hypnotized by the Salamander symbol on his jacket. As she starts to ask questions, she asks, “Do you ever read any of the books you burn ?”
THEME The themes in Fahrenheit 451 all follow the path of government control reigns supreme. Firstly, when Montag first meets Clarisse, he tells her, “‘You think too many things,(Bradbury, 6)”. He has been conditioned to not trust anyone who thinks deeply, and is uneased by her manner. In his job, he associates thought with rebellion, and danger.
Ray Bradbury wrote this book not to talk about the future but to point out the problems in todays society, such as not wanting to read or watching tv all the time and believing everything that they put on the tv without taking into consideration of both side of the story and listening to the facts. Not wanting to read is a huge problem now a day because we are less educated and we are willing to give up books because they're not appealing to us. Also the fact that if it is said on the tv or on the internet everyone is guilty of it even if your don’t think so. Books now-a-day aren’t a huge parts of today society we don’t want to read anything but when we do we just look them up on the internet. There are both good and bad part about this the obvious bad one is we will be an ignorant race, evolution has made us smart but now we have people who ask why show I read when I have “swag”.
Each individual has a different perspective of what a perfect society is. Throughout the course of history there have been instances where an individual takes on the task of creating a perfect society to suite their opinions and perspectives. The attempt to create perfect societies are known as utopian experiments. The goal of a utopia is to employ peace and perfection through dominance, restriction, and loss of freedoms of a community. A strong disciplined leader is needed to maintain their ideas of a perfect society, to instill a sense of fear, restrict information, and violate freedoms which forms a controlling authority over the community.
In the twenty-first century, technology is rapidly evolving and taking over important roles and aspects of everyday life. Children are more worried about how many likes on their picture on Instagram will receive, then doing their homework. In this society, people are beginning to think less for themselves. Technology is influencing people's lives and taking over. In Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451, the people live in a dystopia where books and knowledge are banned.
Well to answer that I must know what fantasy is. “One way of defining literary fantasy is simply to say that it deals with what is impossible – it is only fantasy.” The structure and plot of fantasy is built like this: “1. Conflict: Something is wrong. A conflict or a struggle between good and evil is breaking out, and signs of this may be that magic is beginning to fail.”
Fantasy V.S. Reality In some cases an individual can perceive something as the complete opposite of what it truly is. People create the illusion or the fantasy on what they believe something to be.
Fantasy is a type of genre that allows the reader to experience a place or world unlike any they have before. Fantasy lifts all our ideas of reality, and allows us to be a part of experiences that we would otherwise have no chance of taking part in.
