“The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that changes really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks” (Mark Zuckerberg). “The Monkey's Paw is one of the most reprinted tales of Horror in the English language”( Dziemianowicz). As the reader of this story you learn that something that is easily given to you for a way to get something should be a warning that something isn't right. “As a twenty year old Jacobs started writing for fun and later published these writings in magazines” (Dziemianowicz). The Monkey's paw is a story about a cursed paw that gives three granted wishes. Although it may sound great, there are consequences that go along with these wishes. One example of foreshadowing is the chess game in the beginning of the story. “Hark at the wind,’ said Mr. White, who, have seeing a fatal mistake after it was too late” (Jacobs). This relates to the theme fate and chance because this quote is saying, one bad step or choice can lead to bad consequences. “In the beginning of the story in a chess game when Mr. White made a mistake in the game and sees a fatal mistake after it was too late” (Wilson).This quote relates to the theme because this quote is saying how after you choose to do something, there is no turning away from that
