Fate is a series of events that happens that is out of a person's control. Fate leads a person to their destiny. This is a destiny that could be good or bad. Fate is a major part of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. There are several examples of fate in the tragedy. One example of fate in Romeo and Juliet takes place in act one scene two. Peter, a capulet servant, is given the task to deliver invitations to a capulet party. However, Peter is illiterate and runs into Benvolio and Romeo, who are Montagues. Peter asks them to read to him the invitations. After, Benvolio reads the invitation Peter, not knowing they are Montagues, invites them to the party.(Sparknotes)This was out of Romeo's control but leads him to his destiny, marrying Juliet. Capulet tells Juliet she will be marrying Paris not knowing she is with Romeo. This is an example of fate because Juliet did not decide to marry Paris and it leads to her destiny (death). A final example of fate in Romeo and Juliet takes place in act five scene three (Sparknotes). Juliet is made to marry Paris even though she has secretly married Romeo. Juliet sends a letter to her husband Romeo saying she is going to take a potion that will put her to sleep. This potion will make her family think she is dead even though she is not. The letter is to warn Romeo that she is not actually dead. The letter never makes it to Romeo. This lead Juliet and Romeo to their tragic destiny. This was out of the characters control. Fate is not just a fictional Idea that takes place in literature it is an important part of everyone's life. There are many examples of fate in everyday life. An example of real life fate is, finding a soul mate when it's not expected (ex: running into a person on the street).
