1. In the movie and play doubt I get the feeling that father Flynn did have an inappropriate relationship with Donald Miller. At the end of the movie Sister Beauvier states that Father Flynn’s resignation from the church was his confession, and I believe this. If Father Flynn had nothing to hide, why would he run away instead of fight to prove his innocence? I do understand why staying to fight might of made the situation worst if Father Flynn was innocent. But I believe that if someone were innocent they would try everything in their power to explain and show proof of their blamelessness. It could have been easy for Father Flynn to prove his innocence by going straight to the source, Donald Miller. He could of asked this student to say what happened that day with Father Flynn. From the conversation between Sister Beauvier and Donald Miller’s mom, it is learned that Donald is gay. In this scene, Mrs. Miller explains that her son is not like the other boys, and that the reasoning for him attending this school is due to the fact that at other schools he gets bullied. It is also learned that Donald Miller does not have a good father figure in his life. Mrs. Miller states how the father is very abusive to Donald, and that she is very grateful that Father Flynn cares so deeply for her son. I think in this scene the audience starts to rethink what might be happening between the Father and the student. From the way Mrs. Miller reacts to Sister Beauvier telling her, her speculations, Mrs. Miller acts as if she does not care. In fact she says that she really appreciates Father Flynn looking out for her son, in whatever way. We also learn from Mrs. Miller that Donald really looks up and values his relationship with Father Flynn. From all that is said in this scene, it seems as if Father Flynn is just very concerned with Donald’s emotional well being, and is trying to be a good role model and support
