The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, takes place in Indianapolis and for a small amount of time Amsterdam. The main character Hazel Grace Augustus Waters. This book covers many controversial topics that can make loads of people mad. I believe that Facebook should be banned from language, your sexual content and cancer, which can cause someone to become suicidal. In this book is profane language, this can cause someone to use it themselves. When teens or children read those words, it could cause them to disobey their parents when they were told not to say them. I think these topics are taken the wrong way because they are said everyday by teens, and don’t seem like that big of a deal. The problem is when parents hear about it, they overreact and think that works like slut are being said to undermine their child.Would you want your child to walk around school being called a slut, well this book sure has a lot of it if you want that to keep happening. Some examples are;”What a slut time is. When people read about it, they are more inclined to do it before they are ready to or when they are too young. But when it shown in a book that someone their own age is doing, makes them want to. Your own children may be the same age as the characters in this book, which could make them feel like they are missing out and want to do it too. This causes them to be uneducated and can cause later problems. Some examples are;”...his real sexual action.” (pg. 30), “God you are sexy.” (pg.56) and “I kissed him hard, pressing him against the wall.” (pg. 56). These quotes are all from the sex scene in the book, which I believe is inappropriate for young children as well as teens to read about.
