Presidential Paper Franklin D. Roosevelt was president during one of the hardest times in America, the Great Depression. He did everything he could to make the country great again. Roosevelt entered as a Democrat and won presidency in 1932. I think that FDR executed his power very well and very wisely while he was in office. By March, during the depression, unemployment was up to about 13,000,000. It was at that point when FDR started making his program to bring recovery to businesses and agriculture. That program was called the New Deal. He ordered temporary closure on all banks. As time went by the nation had recovered a little, but many began not to trust FDR. This was when he passed the Second New Deal. This included the Social Security Act which provided Americans with unemployment, disability, and pension for old aged people. It also raised taxes on wealthy people and big corporations which was known as the Soak the Rich tax. …show more content…

He was around when Pearl Harbor happened and managed to bounce back from that. FDR formed a trust of economic advisors who designed the alphabet agencies such as the AAA to support farms, the CCC to employ young men, and the NRA which regulated wages and prices. The New Deal focused on providing economic relief for workers and farmers and creating jobs for the unemployed. He also regulated the stock market to prevent another crash like the one in 1929.
Roosevelt also ran the military strategy called “operation torch.” It was a plan to attack Hitler's troops directly in Northwest Africa. The plan was doomed to fail but surprisingly worked. It was describes as one of the turning points of the war. Another heroic act of FDR was when he saved Australia and the British in the Far East after the fall of Singapore and Burma. He ordered the Doolittle Raid and the naval ambush of the Japanese fleet of aircraft carriers. This changed the war on the
