In a small town in Salem, Massachusetts, a group of girls had caused a wide spread of fear and hysteria, all from singing, dancing, and going off in the woods. The residents of Salem are letting personal issues blind them from the truth. During the mass panic of witchcraft, personal grudges and rivalries are used against one another, now more people are being accused. At the beginning of the Crucible, John Proctor and Thomas Putman have a major dispute over which tract of land is owned by whom. John Proctor had asked Cory Giles if he could take some wood off the tract of land when Mr. Putman had overheard. Mr. Putman said the tract of land was inherited by his grandfather. Both men were angered by this and continued to feud over land. Eventually,
