In the story, Oedipus Rex written by Sophocles, a man fears he killed his father, the former king but along the way learns his true identity but then suffers with the truth. Citizens of Thebes beg King Oedipus for help to get out of the plague. Oedipus had previously dealt with the monstrous Sphinx so therefore Thebes wants his help. Oedipus sends Creon to the Oracle to seek help from Apollo. Then Creon comes back and says “Thebes must find the former king, Laius’s murderer.” Oedipus then seeks info regarding the murder of Laius. Then, Oedipus welcomes Tiresias, but soon after Tiresias regrets coming. Later Tiresias tells Oedipus that “He is the wound, the cause of Thebes plague.” Oedipus replies by saying Tiresias is plotting treason with Creon and then accuses Creon of green, Creon defends himself. …show more content…

After, Oedipus complains to Jocasta about Creon. Jocasta tries to calm down Oedipus by telling him that prophecies can be false. Then, Jocasta tells Oedipus what happened to Laius. Oedipus then feels dread. Meanwhile, Oedipus tells Jocasta about the oracle and that he killed men at the crossroads and it sounds very similar to Laius’s death. Oedipus fears and assumes that he killed Laius. As a result, Oedipus agrees with Jocasta to wait and hear Shepherd’s testimony because of the people who could've killed Laius. Afterward, people start doubting the oracle and the gods. Then, Herald from Corinth and tells Jocasta about Polybus’s death, and that the Corinthians want Oedipus to be their king. Soon, Oedipus finds out Polybus is dead and that he didn't kill him. But, Oedipus still fears the prophecy because of Meropi.
