It can come from friendship, and more intimate relationships, but the term changes based on perspective. Fear may also be subjective as one’s fears may be another’s strengths.
The existence of ghosts or spirits has been a speculation by human beings for many centuries. There has not been a lot of proof within the field of science to show that ghosts and spirits are real. With that being said, many people still believe that once we pass away our spirits will linger on. After reading The Haunting of Hill House, The Turn of the Screw and The Shining, I have come to the conclusion that ghosts are a manifestation of madness, and not spectral forms of once living people. To begin in The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, the Governess first sees a ghost who is known as Peter Quint.

A gothic is a great example of fear in literature. The settings, characters, and story line has a way of making the reader invested by hooking to their emotions.
Spooky things exist to feed off people’s emotions. People normally view these spooky things using a set rules or scale to judge these type of monsters. This is how people are aware of the situations that they are in. In order to escape this situation, people must think about it to themselves. Fear plays a big part in everyone’s lives. While not everyone will admit it, everyone is scared of something. There is a lot that isn’t known about the world and everything in it. The way Poe sets up his story with the tension could create a fearful atmosphere. He did not just focus on portraying a narrator with a certain fear, he would use language that would make the reader feel fear. The idea of a shark coming up from the underneath and ripping off a limb or two is very terrifying. The use of the teeth is to give the audience the idea that this shark is harmful and will do anything to hurt anyone. Stephen King is using the terror effect throughout the whole story. He is making the feeling of dread and anticipation the main factors in the horrifying experience. He also uses the horror effect, when he is writing about The Boogeyman, but he leaves out the gross out part. Edgar Allan Poe is in the same way using both terror and horror to give the reader the most horrifying experience.
