Imagery is using figurative language to represent objects, actions and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses. Usually it is believed that imagery makes use of particular words that create visual representation of ideas in our minds. One main way imagery is shown throughout the book is when the first people get a look at the creatures from the mist. “I looked down and saw the tentacle around Norm's waist working into his skin. The suckers were eating him where his shirt had pulled out of his pants. Blood, as red as his missing apron, began to seep out of the trench the pulsing tentacle had made for itself.”(38) This is displaying the first time the characters see the creatures that are in the mist. King uses very good descriptive words and voice to create a picture in your head or an image. He talks about how the blood seeps out of the trench the pulsing tentacle had made in Norm. The use of imagery in this specific text puts a very vivid image in the reader’s mind and physically makes them create the situation in your mind--it also is a representation of the fear that the characters have developed up until this point. Because of how King uses imagery to describe the creatures the readers can imagine how scary and fearful the characters would be and how frightened they would feel if they were ever faced with those creatures in person.
