Script Summary This one-act play Fearful Symmetry by Alan Haehnel is a mysterious play about a young girl named Mary. But there's 4 identical Marys, who are looking for her shirt because she's planning to go out, her mom tells her she can't go out with her friend Lisa until she chops up some vegetables, even though Mary tried to persuade her mother that she would do it later, she failed to do so. Mary begins to chop vegetables, even though she doesn't want to. Later Lisa comes in and asks Mary when they are leaving, Mary's mom leaves to go to the store, and Lisa is inpatient and rushes Mary to hurry but it's taking her too long. Mary's friend Lisa doesn't want to help but watches Mary for a while until Lisa decides she will leave after Mary tells her to go and meet up with the people waiting for them …show more content…

Mary is now home alone, and she continues to chop the vegetables. Mary nicks her finger and goes to get a bandage, when she comes back, she finds a mysterious stranger in her kitchen holding a box. He puts it on the table and the box lights up, matching the box in the diagonally opposite area. Mary is very confused and questions the stranger. He gives all 4 Marys a proposition, if you push the button, you will receive 20,000 but a person you don't know will die. Mary thinks it's a joke but still is thinking of what to do, she hesitates various times to push the button and then she pushes it as well as the other 3 marys do. A while later the stranger comes in again with 20,000 dollars which he hands to Mary, takes the box and leaves. Mary looks at the money and smiles but is yet confused, then she suddenly falls to the ground when Lisa is coming in, Lisa screams, worried about Mary telling her to wake up. Lisa looks at the ground, confused as to where all that money came from. When Mary's mom returns from the grocery store and sees her daughter on the ground and falls next to Mary holding her, she cries when she
