On the other hand, if companies fail to give us quality products then it can result in hurting company to consumer relations. People do not like to be sold poor quality items and especially don’t like it if they are vulnerable to having their privacy breached. People tend to buy products from trusted brands that's because “consumers like to feel protected and will go with the brand with the better feeling of security and privacy” (Buchanan). It is important for companies to make the consumer feel safe using their products. If people don’t trust the company they’ll stop buying their technology and the company loses money. Companies must also be careful of their own services that they offer. In “Feds accuse two 19-year olds of Hacking for …show more content…
Thomas wrote and article, “An ethical hacker can help you beat a malicious one”, explaining how good hackers can help fight the malicious ones. It’s becoming common for companies to “employ hackers to help find the faults in their programming” (Thomas). Who is better at finding faults in your software than the hackers themselves? Companies like facebook and twitter have been known to use this practice on occasion. They’ll pay hackers for any vulnerabilities they find and report. This brings a whole new level of security to software for their vulnerabilities are being hunted by the people who know them best. There are many hackers out there each with their own individual reasons however they could be classified into “3 types of hackers and one of them are the white hats who want to help companies protect themselves from other more malicious hackers” (Thomas). The first 2 types are black and grey hats who either hack to cause mayhem or personal gain. The white hats are the more ethical bunch who want to help combat other hackers. These white hats align themselves with companies and do their thing legally often with a non disclosure contract. It is advantageous to hack because “intelligence agencies such as the NSA use information obtained through hacking to locate people or other key sources of information” (Forno). Again, intel is very important and hacking is the best method of gaining access to information that can lead to the arrest of criminals. Or it can uncover material that may be used to incriminate people these agencies have been trying to catch for years. Law enforcement has already been fighting crime without hacking aid for while however sometimes that can lead to roadblocks such as when “the FBI had an iphone belonging to a threat and wanted it decrypted. Apple refused to write code to do so and a big case was spawned” (Buchanan). The FBI could not further progress in their investigation because the only lead they had was the suspect’s phone. As Apple refused to crack the phone they hired a hacking group to get into the phone anyway. As a result after the apple case, “a bill to mandate backdoors on technology was failed in congress. So Law Enforcement agencies are expanding their own hacking capabilities” (Buchanan). In our growing digital era using hacking will need to be a necessity in law enforcement. So agencies like the FBI find it necessary to begin expanding their own hacking capabilities for future use in important
