Within the first section of the theme, Fisher Tull displays the trumpet’s wide range abilities. Not only does the first measure of the solo trumpet’s entrance covers a scale of over a fourteenth (one octaves plus a minor 7th) , the first section of this works also requires the trumpet to cover over two octaves in a relative short period of time. In addition, Tull’s use of extensive phrases makes this theme unique. Throughout the theme section Tull does not rely purely on the standard eight-bar phrasing practice. The climax of the main thematic material from the theme section can be interpret as a thirteen-bar phrase.
In Igor Stravinsky's passage “Conductor’s Faults,” he critiques common styles of conductors. Stravinsky develops these critiques by utilizing demeaning similes and metaphors and accusing diction. His purpose is to elaborate for the public what qualities of a conductor are misinterpreted as being skilled. Stravinsky employs his own haughty but accusatory tone with the inexperienced audience to correct them of this innocent misunderstanding.
In the PBS documentary A Class Divided third grade teacher Jane Elliot tried an experiment to let a class of her third graders experience discrimination. For Jane Elliot’s third grade class in a small town in Iowa discrimination was unheard of because there was only white Christians living in the town. She separated her class based on eye color, so one day she made the kids with blue eyes be superior and the kids with brown eyes be inferior. She did multiple test to see if the way they were treated changed the way they learned. The next day she switched it, so the kids with blue eyes were now inferior and the kids with brown eyes were superior.
As Botstein started to conduct The Orchestra Now with Schoenberg, I was amazed at the beautiful sight of the orchestra in compliment to the beautiful environment. The sound of the four violas won me over as I glared at them and remembered the days in elementary school where I used to

“Music can change the world because it can change people, (Bono)” The inevitable truth is music has a way of impacting the lives of those who hear it. However, another undeniable fact is that music programs are constantly on the chopping block whenever education budgets are lowered. The question that is constantly asked is, “why”. No one has ever said, “Music is pointless, getting rid of it would be best,” in fact finding an article speaking out in favor of cutting music programs is an impossibility.
Flying Theme The Flying Theme in ET is an outstanding example of William’s dramatic style as a composer – often with thundering bass or delightfully undulating strings. As Elliot soars through the night sky on his bike, the string instruments billow through, heightening the action on screen, underlining the exhilaration and astonishment of the scene. Variations of this iconic theme are used all throughout the film, including the climatic chase scene.
Unlike traditional symphonic movements, which focuses on following traditional musical form patterns like sonata form, this piece is intended to inspire listeners to imagine and consider scenes, ideas, and moods. (HOW??) This intention related to the Romantic Era, where romanticism encouraged literary, pictorial, and drama associations in music.
A comparison of the Beijing Opera and the Italian Opera reveals a significant contrast in almost all fundamental areas of music between the two examples. Because of cultural influences, the two performances share little commonalities, as the timbre, medium, elements of pitch, rhythm, dynamics, form and phonic structure are definitely not similar. For instance, the musical and physical performance dynamics of the Beijing opera music are forceful, the timbre is loud, tinny and harsh, the rhythm is lively and vigorous, while the Italian Opera music has a gentle dynamic, steady and rolling rhythm and an emotionally deep timbre. One commonality that is noted for both examples, is the powerful delivery of the entertainment.
After having to struggle and not making a chair placement my freshman year, by the time sophomore year rolled in I was determined to make a chair placement in the Georgia All-State Band ensemble. From the very moment the bass clarinet etudes were released I did not waste any time practicing and rehearsing at home and after school to achieve my goal of getting a chair placement. Amazingly, the long hours I spent learning rhythms and perfecting my tone quality paid off in the end because not only did I manage to get first chair placement in District Band, but I achieved the first chair on a statewide level in the Georgia All-State Band ensemble. These achievements only begin to exemplify not only how important setting goals are to me, but also
3 and Four Pieces for Piano, Op. 4 to demonstrate the development of his innovative style, and compare them with Sarcasms in aspects of harmony, rhythm, piano devices, and texture to show the innovations Prokofiev applied in the
The indeterminacy of Cage’s compositions is achieved not only using lines, curves and points, but also in the notes and directions given to the performer. Cage chose to call this work a ‘concert’, rather than a ‘concerto’, as all instrumentalists, in fact play the role of a soloist. The work is scored for piano, strings, woodwind and brass, with the inclusion of the alto flute and saxophone. The conductor also has an independent part to play by representing a timekeeper. (Pritchett, 1993, p.119) Cage wrote ‘My intention in this piece was to hold together extreme disparities, much as one
This orchestral composition is a skillful combination of these elements that makes this classical piece one of my favorites. The instrumentation
Also, there is the use of syncopation in the melody in the B section and the compound time signature change to 12/8. In the A2 section, I changed the time signature again to ¾ therefore; I decided to change some rhythms in the piece to fit this. The focus of the given strand in my composition is the blues scale. It is successful because jazz and blues music emerged during the 20th and 21st centuries.
First of all, the piece is quite interesting as a prelude – an introductory piece of music as it start off with dynamic and vibrant sounds that include the whole ensemble. This piece is structured as a three-part or ternary form which consists of ABA’ form. The idea of this piece is mainly act as an introductory of a story because this piece is only an excerpt from a bigger orchestral performance. From what I have heard, the solo performance is mainly comprise of the woodwind instruments in part B that indicated the slight sign of relief and calmness. The piece has a lot of variation where the composer include different timbres and dynamics such as the high dynamic structure during the first and the last part with the associating crashes of cymbals.
