In LOTR loyalty is important because of how it helps Frodo and his companions throughout their treacherous journey. The book “Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring” by J.R.R Tolkien puts lots of value on the characteristic of loyalty. The Fellowship of the Rings is one of three books in a series that was written by J.R.R. Tolkien. It revolves around the treacherous journey of Frodo Baggins and his friends to eliminate a ring that was given to him by Bilbo Baggins, his uncle. Loyalty is shown in characters in many different instances during the novel. The first character that shows loyalty in the novel is Gandalf. “‘She had already nearly curdled me. Honestly, I nearly tried Bilbo’s ring. I longed to disappear.’ ‘Don’t do that!’ said Gandelf, sitting down. ‘Do be careful of that ring, Frodo! It is partly about that that I have come to say a last word.’”(49). The quote shows many things, including Gandalf's thinking to warn Frodo of the ring's negative qualities.
