Women Pilots During World War II
During World War II, women had to fulfill the different parts that men could not because they were fighting. One of these roles were flying planes. The women pilots learned how to fly airplanes.
In World War II women were better at flying than men. The women had been flying for years before the World War II. General Henry is the chief of the Army Air Force, he is representing most Americans when he said in 1941 that "the use of women pilots serves no military purpose in a country which has manpower at this time (Cornelsen). He is saying that women should not be pilots at that time. But before the world war II started he thought it was a unique idea. They tested new planes’ flying abilities, did instrument checks and fly them around from factories to bases ( "Women During…”). So the women got to fly the planes to test try them. They

Only 38 lost their lives in the two years that the Women’s Air Force Pilots existed,better than the men flying similar missions ( "Women During…”). Some of the women did better at flying the planes then the men did. Most people would think that the men would have more experience but women were more experience. 25,000 women, 1,074 passed the tests to become the first all-female pilots but 5 percent of the men achieved the pilots test ( "Women During…”). Women had to take tests in order to be a pilots and if the women did not pass they did not fly planes. The training must not have been good or it was probably difficult. Out of 25,000 applicants, 1,074 women pilots completed their flight training at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas. The stage was set for women to explore new opportunities in military (Cornelsen). So they had to pass the test. They probably did not have a good instructor. It just depends on how well they studied for the test and if they passed it or not. Overall but over half of the women failed the pilot
