In order to implement our teaching plan, the members of our group made sure to gather the most accurate information. Our group wanted to educate about drug overdose and our public health professor, Dr. Green, suggested to educate about Fentanyl Overdose. Our problem statement addressed: “According to a high school drug-use survey from the National Institute of Drug Abuse, nearly 1/4 of American high schoolers use at least one type of illicit drug.” (teenrehabcenter.org, 2017). Also, we set objectives and outcomes to address and measure in our educational plan. Our goal was for the aggregate group to identify at least 2 “red flags” of fentanyl abuse, as well as, identify at least 2 signs of fentanyl overdose. The signs of Fentanyl overdose are: “ sleepiness, slow heartbeat, labored or slow breathing, cold , clammy skin , and trouble walking or talking”( teenrehabcenter.org, 2017) and the “red flags” of fentanyl abuse are: “Dizziness , dry mouth, severe constipation, loss of appetite, headache, difficulty seeing, hallucinations, bad dreams, difficulty sleeping, sweating, shaking and swollen extremities.”( Narconon.org, 2017)
My role in this teaching project was to provide my fair share of the materials necessary to complete the poster. I also did research on our topic and found the appropriate resources to provide an accurate educational presentation for our aggregate group. During the teaching presentation, I handed out the questionnaires that would allow us to identify and collect quantitative data that will demonstrate if the aggregate group understood our teaching topic.
