Professional Conference Due to my financial hardships, I was unable to attend any of the famous Mississippi conferences for the Social Work Association. However, I was able to attend a conference in Birmingham, Alabama. The Arise Conference that I attended focused was a one-day conference that started around eight o’clock in the morning until three in the afternoon. Their attention on many different topics that Social workers need to be informed about. One of the topics I had the opportunity to be informed about was Medicare and its growth. Another interesting topic that was focused on during the conference was advocacy. The agency I was placed at was American Senior Assistance Programs. American Senior Assistance Programs is Huntsville’s first care management company that ensures that seniors get the best quality of life. This company’s mission is to keep their clients in the least restricted environment as possible. As an intern, I have been able to get a board perspective on what a Social worker does with care management. Here at ASAP, I have been able to interact with clients by going on visits, present on agency projects I have been assigned to, train on mini-mental assessments, and home safety assessments.
