Its U.K. publisher confirmed Thursday that the manuscript of Author E.L. James’ new book has been stolen ahead of the novel’s release next week. To recall, James announced her plans to publish the "Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian" book on June 1.
Despite possible leaks and piracy fears, the publisher confirmed that the “Grey” will be published as planned. The book is set to be released on June 18 which coincides with Christian Grey’s birthday.
The publisher spokesman also confirmed that Kent Police are currently investigating the theft. “'We can confirm that the Kent police are investigating the theft of a finished copy of EL James's new book Grey.” However, he added that the publisher will not be issuing further statement.

Meyer is the writer of the “Twilight” series. She planned to write a fresh story from Edward Cullen’s perspective but she decided to stop writing the novel after the incident.

Meanwhile, the forthcoming “Grey” is a reworking of James’ original work which is told from protagonist Grey's perspective. In a statement posted in her website, James said that she had written the book after receiving a ton of requests from "thousands of readers" for Christian's point of view.
"Christian is a complex character and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past,” James said. “Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story."
