Fight for 15 was founded on November 2012 in Chicago. It is a movement where fast food workers came together and push for better working conditions. Workers were fighting to have a set minimum wage of 15 dollars an hour and having a union without retaliation. They are pushing for a better pay because they want to be able to provide for a better home environment. Many workers are struggling to live the life they live because they are not making enough money while they work for multibillion companies. Fight for 15 is not a movement that is only just going in the United States. A law has been passed in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and the whole state of New York. Kendall Fells, the chief organizer of the Fight for 15 movement states that raising minimum wage to 15 “demonstrates that fast-food restaurants can survive and perhaps even thrive paying more than twice the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.” (Greenhouse) McDonald’s are big multibillion companies that can afford paying their workers well. At first McDonald’s had a negative response about the demand the workers wanted. They had told them that they should go seek out for help and get food stamps if they are struggling. Although that could be an alternative not everybody qualifies to get food stamps. It is not the point of the protest, people want to know that they are capable of buying the basic necessities such as food without getting government help. In response to the protest, McDonald’s set up a website called “McResource” where they give their workers advice on how to deal with their wages. Lisa McComb a spokesperson for McDonald’s said "We have offered the McResource program to help our valued McDonald's employees with work and life guidance created by independent third party experts.” (Kim) This is not what their workers need. If they needed to look up advice like this they can easily do so by researching it online. Workers need a better pay not being told how they should better their living situation when they’re not getting paid the appropriate amount.
