Bass includes two examples of hyperbole to showcase this steadfast strength and perseverance. In the poem, it states “I am a Jew and will be a Jew forever” (1) and even though I am suppressed, I will always come back to life” (10-11). The use of hyperbole reinforces the author’s attitude that he will never give up, even in death. His story and his message will live on through his words. Similarly, in the novel Projekt 1065, the main character is a prisoner, but a prisoner of the Hitler Youth. Micheal reveals that he is a spy trying to get information on some jet plans for Projekt 1065 through hard times and sometimes, almost getting caught. Author Alan Gratz embeds some personification where he is trying to keep his heart locked away so that things would go as they should so that he wouldn't get connected to the people around him. So that way he couldn't get friends, otherwise it would be hard to let go. The text states, "My heart banged on against the little box where I'd locked it away, but I didn't let it out." (177) But, this personification also connects to Micheal's desire to communicate and connect with the outside world and reveal German's secrets regarding lies and secrecy. He wants to befriend them.
