This film stars Woody Harrelson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Richard Jenkins, Jeffrey Donovan, and Michael Stahl-David as Lyndon B. Johnson, Lady Bird Johnson, Senator Richard Russell, President John F. Kennedy, and Robert Kennedy, respectively. The movie, LBJ, began by depicting Lyndon B. Johnson’s race for the presidency, in which he was well surpassed by President John F. Kennedy, despite being a strong Senate majority. He was then made vice president with the intention of rallying his supporters, the Southern Democrats, for the Kennedy administration. The movie depicted Lyndon B. Johnson as being very insecure and it showed how he was very disliked, especially by Robert Kennedy, with frequent clashes between the two. Kennedy, after which President Lyndon B. Johnson was thrust into the presidency and forced to make strong, quick decisions. The theme of the movie is leadership because it shows the strength of Johnson as a leader throughout the film, especially following the assassination of Kennedy, after which he was forced to lead the nation through a time of mass unrest. The movie seemed to be pretty historically accurate as it did a good job of depicting the fact that Lyndon B. Johnson was like an outsider in the Kennedy White House. For example, in real life, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was excluded from the meeting regarding America’s response, despite being the vice president. Additionally, it did a good job of showing Johnson’s progression in terms of opinion. In both, the movie and real life, it was quite ironic that Lyndon B. Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act, as he had voted against all civil rights bills in Congress and in the movie, he acquainted himself with very racist people, such as southern Senator Richard Russell. This movie would likely be geared to a population of people who are more passionate about history as it is very informative and would be interesting to those who enjoy history. The movie was pretty
